Catarina Belim speaks at the IBA Conference “The New Era of Taxation”

Partner Catarina Belim represents Belim at the International Bar Association (IBA) conference “The New Era of Taxation”, which takes place from 6 to 8 November, in Lisbon.

A conference presented by the IBA Taxes Committee to debate:

• Pillar 2 and its impact on cross-border M&A deals
• Tax aspects of Start-Ups
• Tax issues of tokenisation of assets
• International tax controversy in the new era
• Tax aspects of corporate redomiciliations

On the second day of the event,  Catarina Belim will share the stage with Matthias Oldiges (KMLZ, Düsseldorf) and Cristina Rinne (NKF, Zurich) to discuss the VAT aspects of M&A real estate transactions.

This session will provide an in-depth look at the practical VAT implications that arise during real estate-based mergers and acquisitions (M&A).

Speakers will analyze the distinct VAT treatment of asset purchases versus share acquisitions, and explore how VAT considerations impact deal pricing, available VAT reliefs, and the management of VAT liabilities throughout the transaction process focusing on optimal deal structuring.
